Supporting thousands of interactive stories in education and research

Marc Thornton led the development and management of Genarrator, an interactive-storytelling platform used in an educational context with Bournemouth University.

The platform ultimately hosted more than 2,000 narratives and supported creative use across teaching, learning and published research.

Later discussions with the British Library explored how the collection might be preserved over the longer term. Those conversations included an introduction to The NEXT and the Electronic Literature Lab.

The retained project record does not support a more detailed technical reconstruction, so we keep this case study deliberately focused on what can be evidenced: a digital platform operating at meaningful content scale, sustained over a long period and used beyond a one-off classroom demonstration.
